Unlock the Perfect Pairings: Discover the Best Wines to Sip with Autumn Desserts!

It's harvest season for grapes in Europe so it would be rude not to make some dessert wine pairing suggestions.  There’s almost an endless list of different wines to enjoy with desserts; these are just some suggestions to drink with some of our more popular autumn desserts.

Chocolate Hazelnut Tort

Banyuls is a fortified wine from the Roussillon region in France. It's known for its rich, sweet, and nutty flavours, making it an ideal partner for a dark chocolate and hazelnut torte.

An interesting alternative would be Amarone della Valpolicella.  Amarone is a bold Italian red wine with intense dark fruit, spice, and a hint of bitterness. Its complexity can stand up to the robust flavours of the torte, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer red wines.

Apple Crumble

Muscat wines, especially Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise or Muscat d'Alsace, are known for their floral and fruity aromas. These wines provide a sweet and aromatic contrast to the apple crumble's flavours.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Pedro Ximénez Sherry.  This Spanish dessert wine is intensely sweet and syrupy, with flavours of dried fruits, figs, and caramelized sugar. It harmonizes beautifully with the toffee sauce in the pudding.

Pumpkin Pie

Moscato d'Asti.  This sparkling sweet wine from Italy has effervescent bubbles and fruity, floral aromas. Its gentle sweetness and refreshing quality contrast the richness of pumpkin pie and cleanse the palate.

If you want something that packs more of a punch consider pairing pumpkin pie with a fine Bourbon or Whisky. The caramel, vanilla, and oak notes in these spirits can complement the dessert's flavours and add a delightful touch of warmth.

Spotted Dick

A sweet Marsala wine from Italy can be a lovely match for Spotted Dick. Its caramel and nutty notes complement the dessert's flavours, creating a harmonious pairing.
